Jesus called his disciples to him: Peter, Andrew, James, John, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James, Simon, Judas, and Judas Iscariot, who became a traitor.
Why did our Lord Jesus Christ choose for this stupendous office twelve ignorant men of a low station in life and no importance in the eyes of the world?
The answer was to show the whole world that the maintenance and spread of the Church and her doctrine were not due to human wisdom and learning but solely to His grace and protection.
Over the years, Eleven apostles were asked to renounce Jesus Christ’s resurrection and miracles, or they would be put to death. Eleven apostles were murdered because they would not deny Jesus Christ. The 12th apostle Judas Iscariot, who became a traitor, hung himself. Not one of the Eleven apostles renounced Jesus Christ’s resurrection and miracles he performed while he was alive, NOT ONE.
